I love Foley's claustrophobic settings, and the apartment building in this novel is no exception。 I didn't enjoy it quite as much as The Guest List and found the plot a little predictable。 Still an enjoyable read。 I love Foley's claustrophobic settings, and the apartment building in this novel is no exception。 I didn't enjoy it quite as much as The Guest List and found the plot a little predictable。 Still an enjoyable read。 。。。more

Another great book by Lucy Foley。 The search for Ben never relents and Jess as a sister desperate for the truth makes an able protagonist。 The people living in the flats and the loge all key players。 The first third doesnt have the same bite as the second and third parts but overall a very clever interwoven book。 It makes you think you just never know。 Sophie, Mimi, Nick and Antoine make an unlikely set of suspects。

Just finished, loved this … kept me intrigued & turning the pages。 Highly recommend! Great “who dunit” read!

Solid 3。5。 I wanted (needed) a break from all the fantasy that I was reading and picked this up after chancing upon a friend’s ig update of what she was reading at the moment。 Haven’t read this kind of thriller/mystery books in a while and I did enjoy this, in its quiet unravelling of the story of what happened。 What Happened was straightforward and understated in its own way but that’s the beauty of it。 And I thought it was quite a feat that the writer managed to accomplish telling the story co Solid 3。5。 I wanted (needed) a break from all the fantasy that I was reading and picked this up after chancing upon a friend’s ig update of what she was reading at the moment。 Haven’t read this kind of thriller/mystery books in a while and I did enjoy this, in its quiet unravelling of the story of what happened。 What Happened was straightforward and understated in its own way but that’s the beauty of it。 And I thought it was quite a feat that the writer managed to accomplish telling the story cohesively while jumping between perspectives as well as time periods。 It wasn’t a nail biting book that I couldn’t put down - had a few breaks here and there especially with the shifting perspectives, but it was definitely the break I was looking for! 。。。more

One of the best books I have read in 2022! In my top five, possibly top 2。 All the twists and turns make this novel such an amazing mystery。 **********spoiler alert ***************It is so refreshing to see a male in peril and a female rescuing him and to see a happy ending in a missing person case! Well done!

Not my favorite but still had some great twists。 I loved the honesty and boldness of main character, Jess

Kimberly

Although the plot built up a bit slower than I usually like, it does keep you in the edge of your seat。 Once you get to the last dozen chapters it keeps you from putting the book down until the end。

A quick read mystery thriller with the author’s usual style of buildup。 I was entertained though I didn’t find this book to be as good as the Guest List。 I didn’t like any of the characters and found Jess to be annoying much of the time。

That was a heckuva good time! I haven’t liked a thriller/mystery this much in a while! I haven’t read anything else by Lucy Foley, but I think I will!

I think it’s my fault that I keep reading Lucy Foley books knowing that they could be half as long and twice as good。 The first third at least is overfill of people standing around looking at each other and it just feels like there has to be a way to set up the story that is both more efficient and more interesting。

i dont know what to feel, honestly。 it feels good, but it doesnt, but its entertaining, but its boring。 it is good because i feel like being 'watched' but somehow it feels so so。 but its good i dont know what to feel, honestly。 it feels good, but it doesnt, but its entertaining, but its boring。 it is good because i feel like being 'watched' but somehow it feels so so。 but its good 。。。more

(3。5/5)Okay, I can see why this one has such mixed reviews。 There were a lot of things I liked and other things I thought could have been done better or differently。 Character wise, I found Mimi, Sophie and the concierge the most interesting。 All three very complex women。 Jess didn’t really seem to have a personality and Nick was also very bland so I didn’t care much for them。 They felt a little underdeveloped, Jess more so than Nick。 I will say, I did like the multiple POVs, but because the cha (3。5/5)Okay, I can see why this one has such mixed reviews。 There were a lot of things I liked and other things I thought could have been done better or differently。 Character wise, I found Mimi, Sophie and the concierge the most interesting。 All three very complex women。 Jess didn’t really seem to have a personality and Nick was also very bland so I didn’t care much for them。 They felt a little underdeveloped, Jess more so than Nick。 I will say, I did like the multiple POVs, but because the chapters were so short, they felt abrupt and choppy at times。 The pacing definitely made me feel uneasy and ominous, but it was really slow at times。 There wasn’t much action until the second half of the book, but then it really started to come together and click into place。 The twists that were in there didn’t necessarily shock me, but I did like them and thought they were well done。 Loved the setting of Paris and as someone who is learning French, I enjoyed seeing the language and learning new words。 I mean, I wasn’t wowed by this book, but it certainly kept my attention! Overall, a good reading experience。 。。。more

Really quick read! Thoroughly enjoyed all the characters。 Quite a few unexpected twists along the way。 Enjoyed the book very much。

3。5 and rounding down。 All of the action happened at the end, which redeemed the book for me。 I honestly was a little bored in the beginning waiting for something to happen。 I loved all the twists and turns at the end though!! Very much appreciate an unpredictable ending。 Just wish the rest of the book had been as exciting!

The beginning was just sooooo slow ! And some of the twists I was able to guess as it crept up。 The book definitely picks up towards the last 100 pages or so but the pages before I really had to push through。

Suspenseful。 Lots of twists。 Good ending。 I just couldn't relate to Jess and I think it made it harder to really be connected to the story。 Suspenseful。 Lots of twists。 Good ending。 I just couldn't relate to Jess and I think it made it harder to really be connected to the story。 。。。more

Was hard for me to get into this book but I knew once I did I wouldn’t be able to put it down。 Sure enough that’s what happened。 It was good but not great。

I feel bad giving this a 1 star。 Especially bc I have loved every Lucy Foley book previously。 But my god。 I was about half way through it when I was thinking “this has to get better right? like the second half has to be good?” and then it just, got worse。

Chelsea

I really liked this mystery! I thought the twists were really well written and I was surprised at the end。

3。5 rounded up。 I have mixed emotions。 Most of the book I felt like it was building up to something big, even when the big twist happened I wanted more。 So it’s a glass half full kind of deal。 One side I wanted more because the book was that good。 But at the same time there wasn’t enough to make it a fulfilling read。 I didn’t have any deep connections with any of there characters nor could I fully feel for their emotions and what’s happening to them。 I still liked the book。 Good twists and turns 3。5 rounded up。 I have mixed emotions。 Most of the book I felt like it was building up to something big, even when the big twist happened I wanted more。 So it’s a glass half full kind of deal。 One side I wanted more because the book was that good。 But at the same time there wasn’t enough to make it a fulfilling read。 I didn’t have any deep connections with any of there characters nor could I fully feel for their emotions and what’s happening to them。 I still liked the book。 Good twists and turns throughout and I was caught by surprise at the end。 。。。more

Great Lucy Foley book。 I really enjoyed it。 I’ll look for more of her well written novels。

Contrary to popular opinion I actually quite enjoyed this book。 There was some good plot twists and it was suspenseful without being too dark。 A good read

I vacillate between 3 or 4 stars… so 3。5? 3。75? I have enjoyed Lucy Foley’s whodunit books, but my favorite was still The Guest List。Listening to this one was a bonus because of all the accents and French language。

I really liked this book!!! This is the second book I've read by this author with a group mystery plot。 However, both stories are so incredibly intricate, which makes them feel incomparable。 Lucy Foley has got this genre down and proves sometimes you should stick to something you know you're very good at!
